Smartgrade uses Wonde to sync crucial data between your school's MIS and the Smartgrade platform.
To set up the connection between your school, Wonde, and Smartgrade, we request permission to access your school's MIS data via Wonde. This triggers an email to your school from Wonde.
- If your school doesn't use Wonde already for any other MIS syncing, then this email typically goes to a member of the IT team that Wonde have on file, inviting the school to set up a portal with Wonde to authorise permission requests and view permissions.
- If your school does use Wonde already, anyone with access to the Wonde portal can go to the dashboard, find our request, and authorise it there.
Permissions: Required and Optional Scopes
When authorising the request, permissions are split into two categories: required and optional. Required scopes are for things that we need for Smartgrade to operate. Optional scopes are only needed if you require certain features. Please see the table below for more detail:
Category | Purpose | Required/Optional |

Optional scopes fall into two categories:
- Ethnicity/LAC permissions : if granted, these permissions give system admins the ability to view analysis using that data. System users never see Ethnicity/LAC analysis regardless of whether the permission level is selected.
- Students contact details / Students email: these permissions should only be selected if your school is using Smartgrade for online assessments.
