If you wish to add maths notation to an online assessment built directly in Smartgrade, or uploaded using a spreadsheet, this help article will explain how to do it. Notation can be added to some or all questions in an online test; it can be used in both multiple choice and free text answers.
Adding maths notation
Maths notation is added on the Question Detail screen of the assessment builder.
If you have already built your assessment but not published it, you can add notation by going to MY ASSESSMENTS, finding the assessment you wish to add notation to, and clicking Edit in the Action column. This will allow you to access and EDIT the question details, including adding notation.
If you are uploading your question detail using a spreadsheet, ensure you select Upload question detail, the Question Detail screen will open automatically when you open your .csv file.
To open the Question Detail screen on an assessment you are building directly in Smartgrade press EDIT in the Question Detail panel.
- Once in the Question Detail screen, put a tick in the box in the Maths column for the first question that requires maths notation.
- The following screen will appear:
- Any text associated with the question can be entered into the Question text box, although this can be left blank.
- In the Maths question box enter any maths, including notation. Notation is selected by simply clicking on the relevant symbol on the maths keyboard above the box. Note: if no maths notation is needed for the question then this box can be left blank.
- Click Save.
- Once back on the Question Detail screen, click the VIEW button in the Answer(s) column.
- The maths notation can be accessed by toggling the keyboard icon towards the right of the answer field.
- If there is more than one answer, add maths notation to other answers if applicable and SAVE.
- Continue to add further maths questions and answers. Once completed, click CONFIRM at the bottom of the page and save or publish in the normal way.
