If you wish to add images to an online assessment built directly in Smartgrade or uploaded using a spreadsheet, this help article will explain how to do it.
Adding images
Images are added on the Question Detail screen of the assessment builder.
If you have already built your assessment but not published it, you can add images by going to MY ASSESSMENTS, finding the assessment you wish to add images to and clicking Edit in the Action column. This will allow you to access and EDIT the question details, including adding images.
If you have already published your assessment, images can still be added provided the assessment has not been taken. Go to MY ASSESSMENTS, find the assessment you want to add images to and click View in the Action column. On your assessment page click VIEW MARKS. This will open your Question detail window where you can add images. When the assessment has been taken, alterations can no longer be made.
If you are building your assessment in the User Interface you can open the Question Detail screen by pressing EDIT in the Question Detail panel.
If you are uploading your question detail using a spreadsheet the Question Detail screen will open automatically when you open your .csv file.
Selecting an image
If a question requires an image, click on the image icon in the question line.
An Upload image screen will open. From here you can click on BROWSE FILES to select your image.
Please note, in order for files to upload they must be
- less than 4MB
- no more than 2048 x 2048 pixels
- credited appropriately if you are not the owner
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate permissions, rights or licences to use the image in the way you intend to use it and Smartgrade accepts no responsibility for any breach of copyright or intellectual property rights that may result in users adding images to assessments.
Below the image you can add Credits and the source URL Credits (this may be a licensing requirement of some otherwise free images). You need to fill in both fields in order for the image to save.
For this question below, the image has been created by the person making the quiz and therefore no credits are required.
You can crop the image while in the upload image window by resizing or repositioning the frame to highlight the portion of the picture you require.
When you have uploaded images to all the questions that require them, click to CONFIRM your question detail is complete. The image icon will now be green to show the question has an image.
Select and CONFIRM the configuration for publishing. A blue box at the top of the screen will indicate that your publication has been successful.
Your assessment will be available to view and assign in the marketplace. This video explains how to assign an assessment.
Questions with images - a student's view
When your students are sitting the assessment they will see the image embedded in the question, as in the example below.
Where you have credited an image, a hyperlink to the source is shown in the bottom left corner of the image. This will allow anyone viewing the image to go directly to the URL, so ensure origin of your images are appropriate!
Marking a test with images
When the assessment is complete and you are marking it, the images will be displayed with the question so that you are easily able to make judgements on whether the question has been understood.
