Student Preview allows you to see an assessment as it will be presented to the students. It can be accessed in 3 ways:
- From the MY ASSESSMENTS tab (e.g. if the publisher wishes to review the assessment before publishing)
- From the MARKETPLACE (for anyone to preview an activated assessment after it has been published and before assigning it to classes)
From the MARKBOOKS tab via the actions menu(e.g. for a teacher to see what the student will see and read aloud questions for younger students).
More details on each of these options is below. For information on how to build an online assessment please see this help article.
Using the Student Preview
Wherever you access the Student Preview from, it will open in a new tab when selected.
You can work through the test; adding answers if you choose, using the NEXT and BACK buttons, reviewing and submitting.
NOTE:
- The preview won't retain any answers and there is no marking screen.
- If your test has multiple parts, all parts will display in the one preview.
Using Student Preview in MY ASSESSMENTS
Draft online tests can be previewed by the publisher as if they were a student, to enable them to review the assessment before publishing.
In Smartgrade, go to the MY ASSESSMENTS page and locate the assessment you wish to preview. On the right hand-side of the assessment click on the 3 dots and select Preview test.
Once the test is published, the Student Preview can be used by anyone who has admin permissions in Smartgrade.
If schools wish to use the Student Preview for a global assessment, the assessment must be activated in the Marketplace first.
Using Student Preview in the MARKETPLACE
For any activated global or MAT-wide online assessments you can launch the Student Preview from the MARKETPLACE.
In Smartgrade, go to the MARKETPLACE page and locate the online assessment you wish to preview. Use the Preview button to open the example of the online assessment in a new tab. Please note that assessments must be activated for the Preview option to be available.
Using Student Preview in MARKBOOKS
When building the online assessment there is now an option to standardise the order of the multiple choice answers.
If this setting is enabled, Student Preview in MARKBOOKS allows the teacher to generate a view of the online assessment where the multiple choice options order is consistent with what the students are viewing, enabling the questions and options to be read aloud to younger children and those that need additional support.
In Smartgrade, go to the MARKBOOKS page and locate the assessment you wish to preview. On the right hand-side of the assessment click on the 3 dots and select Preview test.
NOTE:
- The default setting when building the assessment is non-sequential answers, meaning the correct answer in a random position for each participant.
- When ‘MCQ in sequential order’ is selected, the correct option is randomised but consistent across the preview and all markbooks.
- More detail on 'MCQ in sequential order' is available in this article.
