The Smartgrade AI marking assistant is currently in a beta pilot phase. If you are interested in taking part in this pilot, please contact our support team.
Delivering the test
Teachers will unlock markbooks ready for students to sit their test in the usual way, by clicking "Start test".
Students will then sit the test and submit their answers in the normal way. Subsequently, if teachers want to lock the test to prevent students accessing it again, simply click "End Test".
Marking the test
For markbooks included in the AI automarking pilot, the "Mark test" button will be replaced with a "Review AI marking" button. While marking is being run and validated the teacher will see the following message when clicking "Review AI Marking".
Moderating the marks
Once our AI marking assistant has completed the marking, and the data has been verified (this will take around 48 hours during the pilot), teachers can then moderate the marks by going to the markbook and clicking "Review AI marking".
The Teacher Marking screen will open and the following message will display:
"This assessment has been marked using our AI marking assistant. You can now review the marks and change any where you feel that AI has marked the response incorrectly. Once you have reviewed all marks, please submit the markbook via the “SUBMIT” button found on the last question.".
Marks can be adjusted, as required, in the teacher marking screen. Once you are happy with all marks awarded, you will then need to submit the markbook using the "SUBMIT" button found on the last question.
What about absent students?
For students who were absent when the test was originally sat, and now need to sit the test when the AI marking assistant is running, the teacher can start the test in the usual way and the student can sit and submit their answers. The teacher can then "End test" to prevent students accessing and changing their answers. Once our AI assistant has completed the marking of all other students, the teacher will then be able to manually mark the returned student's test (as these answers will not be marked by our AI assistant) via the "Review AI marking" button.
For students who were absent when the test was originally sat, and return after our AI assistant has completed the marking, the teacher can start the test in the usual way and the student can sit and submit their answers. The teacher can then click on "Review AI marking" and manually mark the absent student's answers (as these will not be marked by our AI assistant).
