The Smartgrade AI marking assistant is currently in a pilot phase. If you are interested in taking part in this pilot, please contact our support team at help@smartgrade.co.uk.
This help article is for teachers who are carrying out online assessments that make use of Powermark, our AI assistant. Before administering an online assessment for the first time, an administrator in your school will need to complete some preliminary steps by following this article.
Markbooks will need to be assigned in the Marketplace by a School or MAT Admin. Smartgrade support will also need to tag these markbooks as being available for AI automarking - please contact our at help@smartgrade.co.uk to arrange for this to happen. Once the markbooks have been tagged, you will see a Powermark icon in the AI column on the Markbooks table.
Delivering and marking the test
Teachers will unlock markbooks ready for students to sit their test by clicking "Start test", or "End/Start test" for a multi-part assessment where you can select which part you are going to make available to students.
Students will then sit the test and submit their answers in the normal way. Once students have submitted their answers click "End test" to send the answers to our Powermark AI assistant.
For a multi-part assessment, select "End/Start test" and use the slider to end the specific part that has been sat by students which will send the answers to our Powermark AI assistant.
Moderating the marks
Once Powermark our AI marking assistant has completed the marking and the data has been verified (this will take around ten minutes), teachers can then moderate the marks by going to the markbook and clicking "Review AI marking". For a multi-part assessment you will be able to select which part you would like to review marks for.
If Powermark has not yet completed marking you will see the following message. We recommend trying again in a few minutes.
The Teacher Marking screen will open and the following message will display the following message:
You will see all student answers and the marks given by Powermark. Where there is less confidence in a mark Smartgrade will list these responses in a separate table at the top of the marking screen. We recommend giving particular attention to these.
Marks can be adjusted for any answers as required. Once you are happy with all marks awarded, you will then need to submit the markbook using the "SUBMIT" button found on the last question.
What about absent students?
Teachers can restart the test when the student returns by clicking "Start test". The student will then take the test and submit their answers. The teacher can then "End test" to send any new answers to Powermark. Once our AI assistant has completed the marking, the teacher will then be able to go back into "Review AI marking" and review marks for these answers. Don't forget to submit the marking once it has been reviewed.
